The end of the disposable e-cigarette?!

How German politics wants to ban Elfbar, HQD & Co.

The hype around disposable vapes like Elfbar, HQD etc. is undeniable. The colorful e-cigarettes with countless flavors can now be seen on every corner and have thus officially arrived in the mainstream. But now they are to be banned. Find out why in today's post.

Why are disposable vapes so popular?

Disposable e-cigarettes or disposables are a cheaper alternative to traditional smoking.

They contain nicotine salt e-liquid, which usually has a strength of 20mg. Through disposable vapes, you get a smooth vapor with a very intense flavor in seconds. There is no mess and no big preparation as they do not need to be filled or charged. Just take them out of the pack and you're ready to go.

Sustainability, youth & health protection - This is why disposables will soon be banned.

While the hookah industry is concerned with the upcoming 25 gram regulation and insists on changing it, as the sustainability aspect and environmental protection is being trampled by the government, Hans-Jürgen Thies (CDU/CSU) argues for the regulation of disposable e-cigarettes, among other things with the sustainability aspect: "What measures does the German government plan to take, from a sustainability, youth and health protection perspective, against the current flood of new, so-called disposable e-cigarettes from the People's Republic of China, which end up in household waste after a short period of use, including the batteries that go with them, and which are apparently very attractive to young people because of their easy accessibility - they do not need to be charged or refilled, but can be used directly after purchase. " (p. 97, printed matter 20/4209).
The answer of the parliamentary state secretary Dr. Bettina Hoffmann (The Greens) gives a glimpse of a coming regulation or ban of disposable e-cigarettes. In particular, the environmental and sustainability aspects are brought to the fore: "The German government will work to ensure that e-cigarettes are one of the first product groups to be regulated and that requirements are set for the interchangeability of battery and liquid when the working plan for the Ecodesign Regulation is drawn up. This will help ensure that single-use e-cigarettes can no longer be placed on the market." (p. 98, printed matter 20/4209).

What does that mean for you and your vape consumption?

Currently, it looks like the federal government is working on an ordinance that will regulate e-cigarettes. It is possible that general regulations will soon apply to e-cigarettes regarding refillability and battery replacement. Whether this means refillable systems will be banned completely, however, is not clear at this time. However, things are looking very bad for disposable e-cigarettes and it can be assumed that disposables won't be around for much longer. So if you're a fan of Elfbar, HQD, Lio, etc., you should stock up soon before your favorite vape is no longer available!
